Since we are launching a podcast for Karla to share stories and interviews while on her cancer journey, we have been brainstorming a jingle or opening to go with the episodes.
This was originally written to go with that.
I "met" Karla almost five years ago when I left cruise ship jobs behind and was looking for work. Though we have never met in person, she has consistently been a source of support and inspiration. I have always known her to be strong, determined and, most of all, kind and generous.
Here is my ode to you.
When life gives you cancer, what do you do?
Radiation, chemo and pain meds too
But it's more than just treatments
It's a new way to be
It's figuring out life
While my boobs try to kill me
Cancer brings many things that you didn't expect
From a new daily schedule to a pain in my neck
To people coming back in my life
From around the world and years past
While this cancer gets its ass kicked
These are the stories that will last
My boobs are trying to kill me
And while I'm sipping chemo cocktails
I want to talk about it all
Laugh or go off the rails
This is the truth
The highs and the lows
The people I meet along the way
So let's start the show
I'm drinking chemo cocktails
Instead of wine
As my boobs try to kill me
And crawl up my spine
Let's have a laugh
Or a rant or two
This is the bad and good
That cancer can do
