The Amazing Staff

The Amazing Staff

One of the things that I am most thankful for with this whole experience is the staff that I have been blessed with at the hospital. They have done everything that they can to make sure I am comfortable and still smiling – from giving me a foot massage to joining in on some Halloween fun.

I have met so many amazing people through this experience that I never would have met otherwise. Even through this, I can’t stop interviewing people and finding out their stories.

These people have become more than just caretakers for me. They are friends and people that I will always have in my heart and my thoughts now.

The best example of how much they will go above and beyond for me is entertaining my desire to turn the tables on Halloween. I got to dress up and be silly.

Karla, I just watched a few of your videos, and you are amazing! I felt so blessed seeing glimpses of your family rallying and seeing you are approaching this with your characteristic wit and positivity. Your positive attitude is an inspiration, and I can see how you are, in fact comforting those around you with your candor. I’m sure it’s helping to allay Zach’s fears too – you are a really good mom!
I also am so happy to hear from Al’s email that your mom is taking charge of your eating regime! I have seen how food can be an essential part of the healing process. Organic, no sugar and plant based eating is something my sister in law stayed committed to, and conquered a serious breast cancer diagnosis with her unrelenting commitment to her eating…
I am sending you a big hug, and much love from Peg City on this wintery evening. It looked like a lovely snow globe here this morning for a short while. Big fat sassy snow flakes softly fell with the sun out! It was the kind of scene that I think of as a “God moment” – reminding me that He’s in charge.
May you have many good moments over the coming weeks my friend!!
xoxo
Laurie

I try to stay positive as much as possible but there are (obviously) some things about this that are just terrible and difficult to deal with. The reason that I was in the hospital for so long was because we were dealing with pain management and trying to get my pain under control.

Going Home

After spending nearly a month in the hospital, I was able to start November by going home. This was not an easy transition to make. While of course I wanted to get home to my family and dogs, the hospital was a very comforting and healing place for me. I felt a lot of love and support from the staff and knew that they were doing their best to take care of me.

Truthfully, there have been lots of dark moments in the past month. This has not been easy on anyone. But, I have never been one who can just dwell on the negative.
