Partial View Tee

The sad truth is that most people wish that they could change things about their appearance. You might be one of the 90% of women who wish that they could change their appearance or one of the 40% of women and 20% of men who would consider plastic surgery in their lifetime.

While only about 2% of people suffer from body dysmorphic disorder, it is likely that you understand the feeling of looking in the mirror and picking apart something you see. Media and the fitness, diet and beauty industries help to perpetuate the idea that we do not look the way that we should. This design is a reminder that there is not one perfect nose, waist or weight. (ADAA)

  1. Body dysmorphic disorder is defined as being anxiety related to one or more perceived flaws in a person’s appearance and is often associated with excessive worry and shame. It usually develops in adolescence, but people are unlikely to seek help until they are older, if they seek help at all. Symptoms of BDD are feeling the need to camouflage part or all of your body, obsessively looking in the mirror or avoiding mirrors. (EBMH)
  2. The term body image refers to our mental representation of our physical body or appearance. Most issues to one’s body image start in high school or before. Fifty-three percent of 13-year-old girls are unhappy with their bodies and around 30% of 10-14-year-olds are actively dieting. This indicates there is a need to address body confidence from a young age in order to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of the future generation. (MACMH)
  3. Question: What do you see in the mirror?
