Gun control is such a controversial issue, and as a result, most people choose to be silent about it. However, creating dialogue is essential in finding solutions that can help to limit violence. This design was created to spark a discussion about gun control in the hopes that changes will be made, and we will see less gun-crime across the world.
Artist Jordan Bouma shows us that at first glance, you might think the possum on the ground is…well, playing possum. But with a closer look, he appears to be dead. So many different possibilities can explain what’s going on. Did the possum with the gun accidentally shoot his friend? Did he do it on purpose? Is the possum on the ground merely pretending to be dead because he’s afraid of the gun?

One in four households in America are gun owners and gun control continues to be a hotly debated topic. As part of the constitution, many people will defend their right to bear arms. However, recent surveys have indicated that the majority of Americans (60%) agree with stricter laws being implemented. For example, many believe there should be an application of minimum eligibility requirement and background checks. (Pew Research)
On average, approximately 36,000 Americans are killed by guns on an annual basis, with 100,000 more being wounded. In 2019, there were 417 mass shootings across the country, which is more than once per day. This is a figure which has been increasing steadily since the Gun Violence Archive began to track them. Question: Do we need to place increased restrictions on guns in America?
