When we talk about slavery, we often think about horrific examples of the past where it was practiced in plain sight. As we look back on these examples, we focus on people being trafficked from their homes against their will, tortured and forced into terrifying and traumatic situations on a daily basis. Many of us think that these are stories of the past that have no equivalent in today’s world.
However, statistics suggest that more people are enslaved today than at any other time in history. Recent estimates indicate that 40.3 million people are living in modern slavery, in that they are forced to work against their will, are controlled or coerced, have limitations placed on their freedom of movement, or have been treated as a commodity.
This bold design aims to invoke conversation and dialogue, serving as a reminder of those fighting for their survival and freedom on a daily basis. (The Guardian)
