Racial equality is a simple concept — people of all backgrounds and ethnicities should be treated equally. Unfortunately, racial discrimination is still embedded in societies throughout the word. Discrimination due to ethnicity occurs on a daily basis, hate crimes are committed and people face prejudice and marginalization. This is due to people's indifference and the failure to speak up, allowing perpetrators to feel that they are safe and even justified in their actions. We need to do better at standing strong against discrimination of any kind, especially when people's lives are at stake.

2Racial discrimination comes in many forms, including in education, hiring, and pay practices which contributes to persistent earnings gaps. As of the last quarter of 2019, the median White worker made 28 percent more than the typical Black worker and more than 35 more than the median Latino worker), (BLS)
In most Western countries, ethnic minorities are more likely to be living in poverty, are less likely to attend university, and are disproportionately represented amongst the prison population. In the USA, for example, despite evidence indicating that people use drugs at a similar rate, it remains that Black people are six times more likely to be arrested for the crime, and have a significantly increased likelihood of being incarcerated. Moreover, Black men are likely to spend 19% longer in prison for the same crime. (NCBI)
