The usual cliche is that “children are our future,” but it’s a cliche because it is true. Our communities are only as good as the next generation, and many children can easily fall through the cracks if society does not hold their parents, education systems, and standards of living to a high expectation. This design reinforces how important it is to advocate for children, and their ability to grow, make mistakes and mature healthily.
Unfortunately, not all parents are able to give children the same standard of living, education, or care as would be ideal. Yearly, referrals to state child protective services involve 6.6 million children. These services must have the resources to then make sure these children’s needs are cared for and are often strapped for cash due to lack of government funding. (ChildHelp)
Another concern is the education system’s ability to handle the diversity of backgrounds, multiple intelligences, and children with disabilities. One way to advocate for these students is to push for school resources and inclusive classrooms in your community. (NAEYC)
Question: What do you most wish someone had helped you with as a child? How can you advocate for that thing in your local community?
