Kindness is a practice, a series of actions that spread through the world. We can’t ever know the true depth of impact our actions make but the more we err toward kindness, the more the world shifts. When you see someone in need, you may not understand and you may not be able to lift them out of their situation, but you can be kind. That goes a long way toward building community across humanity.
The second-largest group of homeless people are people in families with children, at a whopping 33%. Whatever you may think about life choices, children do not have responsibility for their life situations. (End Homelessness)
There are many ways to help the homeless beyond simply giving money. Consider gift cards for local restaurants or groceries, or carry protein-packed granola bars and water with you. Even if you don’t have the means to help much financially, simply acknowledging them with a smile and a short conversation can be helpful in curbing loneliness and showing that you still see their value as people.
