Being an advocate can be a frustrating thing. There are people married to their misinformation, people who would rather stay in the dark and people who benefit from negative choices. Sometimes it can feel like you’re shouting at a brick wall.
Sometimes we just need to release all of that frustration to get back to a positive place where we can continue to work for change. We all get angry and can feel like we are getting nowhere (or even that we’re moving in the wrong direction). This design is a reminder to stay strong but not make yourself a martyr. Take a break when you need it. Let out what you have been holding in.

Advocacy burnout is a real issue that many advocates will face in their lifetime. Caring passionately about a cause can add a link to your identity as a person, causing you to feel personally affected by what is happening with that issue. Triumphs can feel euphoric but setbacks and periods where not much is happening can be excruciating. And while we all know that change usually takes a large span of time to be achieved, this can lead you to feel depressed, anxious or hopeless in down or stressful times. (Girl’s Globe)
When advocates work with people who have experienced trauma, they can experience vicarious trauma. This might manifest itself in feelings of fear, a heaviness, or anger as well as burnout. The best treatment for this is self care and possibly taking a temporary break from this high-stress environment. (MIVAN)
